Support Forum

Every time that you post a problem, PLEASE add the Joomla and the extension's versions and revisions (for example: Joomla 3.3.6, Contact Enhanced 3.3.5), PHP version and Server's Operating System. If you only manage only one site it is easier if you edit your profile and just add that information to your signature. Don't forget to add a detailed description of the problem. If possible, write down all steps to simulate the problem.

Before submitting a new post, PLEASE make sure you are running the latest version, test in different browsers (IE, FF, Chrome,..) and clear Joomla and browser's cache after every change you make.

Also, most questions are already answered in our FAQ and in iFAQ and Contact Enhanced documentation pages.

× Contact Enhanced is a contact component manager created to replace Joomla! core contacts component and add lots of advantages and new features (see Features ) and it offers many plugins and modules for several different purposes,

Change an admin form field from Text to Checkbox

5 years 2 months ago #24775 by tapiochre
Just when you thought you knew how to use CE to its best, the customer comes up with a new request.

In a nutshell, the idea is to change one (any) of the fields on the admin form (example Skype field) from a Text input field to make it a checkbox field with a number of options (lets say 4). They want to use CE to show if their offices support ay ONE of the 4 or so services, such as 'Sales; Support; Design; Consulting' that they might offer.

Alternatively, if its easier, to create a new admin form field that is a checkbox that they can change the values for, probably by editing an XML file?

Then, based on the choice made, the value chosen is stored in the DB and displayed in the front end as Text but also depending on the choice, the Front End Contact Image will be auto-chosen (from a set of 4 preset images) and shown where the contact image is normally displayed. Pernaps (if it works this way) the XML file can be used to define the image path too).

My attached admin mockup might help?

I'm happy to provide a more detailed spec if its needed!

Is this something that is easy for me to do or, if its a custom modification, can you email me a suggestion as to price for the mod?

Thanks
Chris

Dear Chris,

Hacking the XML file and changing a template file could be enough, however it would require you to always make these changes everytime Contact Enhanced is updated.

Another possible way is to create a Contact Custom Field (just implemented in Contact Enhanced 3.9.1) and create Template HTML overrides to display the required changes. This is the best approach if you want to implement by yourself, although that can also be a lot of work and I do not guarantee it would not cause problems between upgrades.
We are still working on the Contact Custom Field's documentation, however "Template HTML overrides" is out of the scope of this documentation.

The last option is for us to include this feature as part of the Contact Enhanced Component.
Do you have a mockup of the front-end?
The Business status image will be an image or actually an icon. I believe it would be best to be an icon instead of an image, this way we can include it in the Icons tab in the component options.

Anyway, if you are interested in a quote, please send us an email using the Support -> Contact Form and we'll continue brainstorming ;-)

Cheers Douglas...

I'll see what I can do! I may still come back for a quote though!
