Every time that you post a problem, PLEASE add the Joomla and the extension's versions and revisions (for example: Joomla 3.3.6, Contact Enhanced 3.3.5), PHP version and Server's Operating System. If you only manage only one site it is easier if you edit your profile and just add that information to your signature. Don't forget to add a detailed description of the problem. If possible, write down all steps to simulate the problem.

Before submitting a new post, PLEASE make sure you are running the latest version, test in different browsers (IE, FF, Chrome,..) and clear Joomla and browser's cache after every change you make.

Also, most questions are already answered in our FAQ and in iFAQ and Contact Enhanced documentation pages.

Autocomplete Input Field

3 years 3 months ago #25744 by cdalphin
Hi.
I got a script from W3Schools to autocomplete an input field with countries.
See file attached.
This script is using a variable filled with world countries.
I want to use such a script for France towns.
Number of France towns is around 30.000 wich id a little bit a lot for a variable.
How to modifiy the script to replace variable by a text file containing town names?

Regards
Claude

Dear Claude,

I don't recommend using this script for 30.000 city names. Considering this script loads all countries (cities in your case) on page load, it would probably cause your page to load much slower.

In this case, I'd recommend using either using a Database table or a jSON file and load the cities via Ajax.

For customizations, please ask for a quote using the Support > Contact Form.

Best regards,

Hi Douglas.
It's was exactly what I suspected, ( items number too high to be loaded in page)
I will have a look using Json file or a database query.

Thanks for your answer
Regards
Claude
