Support Forum

Every time that you post a problem, PLEASE add the Joomla and the extension's versions and revisions (for example: Joomla 3.3.6, Contact Enhanced 3.3.5), PHP version and Server's Operating System. If you only manage only one site it is easier if you edit your profile and just add that information to your signature. Don't forget to add a detailed description of the problem. If possible, write down all steps to simulate the problem.

Before submitting a new post, PLEASE make sure you are running the latest version, test in different browsers (IE, FF, Chrome,..) and clear Joomla and browser's cache after every change you make.

Also, most questions are already answered in our FAQ and in iFAQ and Contact Enhanced documentation pages.

Problem with Ajax Contact

10 years 6 months ago #15567 by iorbita
Hello,
Ajax Contact doesn't work anymore,
I receive a copy of the message to my second email address, but not at the primary email address.

Is it possible that this is caused because the site is in a subdomain?

Thank you.

Joomla 3.1.5
Ajax Contact 3.1

Greetings,

Some mail servers have some restrictions and only allow SMTP. Your mail server settings might have changed.

Are you using SMTP as your mailer in Joomla Global configuration?
This usually fixes most mail related issues.

...
... I use Ajax Contact in another website with the same host but with the 1.5 version of Joomla and email settings in global configuration are set to PHP Mail function and I have no problems sending messages, is the reason why I ask you if the problem is maybe caused because the site is in a subdomain?

Dear Iorbita,

Running Ajax Contact in a subdomain should not be a problem.

Ajax Contact uses Joomla framework to send emails, since Ajax Contact is working for all other users, this is probably not a Ajax Related problem.

Can you try to set SMTP for testing purposes?
Please read this article below, specially article #5:

… it's doesn't work also with SMTP configuration, I think the problem comes from your extension (v.3.1 for Joomla 3.1.5)
I just sent an email test from the Component Acymailing that use a PHP Mail function configuration and I have no problem, I receive the email.
As I wrote in my previous message I use Ajax Contact in another website with the same host (SiteGround) with the 1.5 version of Joomla, Mail settings in global configuration are set to PHP Mail function and I have no problems sending messages…

Dear iorbita,

Is your other website in the same server? Different servers in the same hosting provided might have different configurations.

There are several possible mail server configurations. Some of them do not allow to send unauthenticated emails if the FROM field is not someone@yourdomain.com OR the TO field is not someone@yourdomain.com.

I believe that's why you are able to send emails using PHP Mail and Acymailing.

Are you sure you have configured SMTP correctly?

If you still cannot fix this, I'll try to create a package for the current under development version, but that might take a while because I'm not in my office today.

Is your other website in the same server?

… there are on the same server, the component Acymailing is installed on the same website as Ajax Contact.

Are you sure you have configured SMTP correctly?

yes, the SMTP configuration is correct , I even asked to SiteGround to verify and they just answered me by saying that the configuration is correct. Here the SiteGround SMTP configuration.

If you still cannot fix this, I'll try to create a package for the current under development version, but that might take a while because I'm not in my office today.

... the website is still in construction, so it's not urgent ;)

... maybe you prefer that I ask to SiteGround to look more closely at the problem, I would like that the configuration remains on PHP Mail

Dear Iorbita,

I could not reproduce this error.
Try to set the "Sender email" option to an email@yourdomain.com and make sure the recipient is someone@yourdomain.com. Don`t forget to reload the page. If the form works, than it is because your Mail server requires the either sender or recipient is someone@yourdomain.com.

In case it does not work:
I have sent you an email with the under development version, so you can test it.

Hello Douglas,
I have not installed the new version of Ajax Contact, I tried the solution you told me, I filled both fields (Sender Recipient and Sender email) with the mail settings on PHP Mail and it works.
It would be nice if the fields could be empty after sending the message ;)

Thank you for your support :)

Dear Iorbita,

The fields are emptied automatically, but by default it takes a few seconds, but you can change it in the Ajax Contact Edit page.
