Seeing that we are using a field called Surname as the 'Name' field
would it be possible to add in the extra field we have created called First_Name' in here as well

For us technically challenged it would be code to say please send the email with 'First name and Surname' from the fields 'first_name' and 'name'

Let me show you how we use your forms
Volunteer Applications
This is an example of one of our Volunteer Application Forms

When the form is completed it goes to the Research Team co-ordinator
We are using two fields for gathering names of applicants
At present we have two fields we are using.
1) First Name (which is a text field)
2) Surname (which is a name field)

So if you filled in the form the Team co-ordinator would see this
Anonymous User Machado admin@fok.com.br

Now if a co-ordinator replies to that email it comes up as the name of the person being replied to.

Rather than Douglas Machado [admin@fok.com.br]

Ok so what I was asking was this
in /components/com_contactenhanced/controllers/contact.php
On line 121 the coding says

Would it be possible to combine two fields there?
So instead of 'name' we could have 'First_Name' and 'name' as the output fields.

Which means it would add Douglas in as the First Name and Machado as the name field

Hope that explains better I just wouldn't know how to do thus!

Dear Andrew,

I'm working on a fix for you, but in the meanwhile I'll ask you to perform a couple very simple changes on your site.

1. Go to your First Name Custom Field and edit the alias so it reads first_name. This requires the latest CE version to be installed;

2. Disable the Name Custom Field type;

Even though you have explained and I don't get why you cannot use the Name Custom Field, I'll keep this Customization in the source code, so you can upgrade in the future.

Working on it now
Reason for needing this is in order to be able to export the info into other programmes!
If we just used the 'name' field then we wouldn't be able to write to people by First Name
Because people would add into the Name field 'Doug Machado'
So an email to them would be
'Dear Doug Machado'
as opposed to 'Dear Doug'

So using First Name and Surname allows us to have the option to do this
or simple to address someone more formally as in Dear Mr Machado

Forgive me for being a total pain!
I just noticed that while we have sorted the name in the email address we have another minor problem
Because the name field is used elsewhere in the system we ened up with only the First Name in the Recorded Messages at the backend and also only the first name in the CSV export file!
And because we need to exported data to use elsewhere as mentioned earlier it causes an issue!
I can try fixing it if you can give me any guidance?

Dear Andrew,

You have a very unique situation, so it is hard to get it to work correctly, however I was just testing and for new form submissions you should still get the Name in the CSV file. However it won't show for your previous form submissions.

Just checked and an application which came in today arrived with email address looking fine but only first name showing in the CSV
Is it because the Recorded Messages only show the name field still?
