Every time that you post a problem, PLEASE add the Joomla and the extension's versions and revisions (for example: Joomla 3.3.6, Contact Enhanced 3.3.5), PHP version and Server's Operating System. If you only manage only one site it is easier if you edit your profile and just add that information to your signature. Don't forget to add a detailed description of the problem. If possible, write down all steps to simulate the problem.

Before submitting a new post, PLEASE make sure you are running the latest version, test in different browsers (IE, FF, Chrome,..) and clear Joomla and browser's cache after every change you make.

Also, most questions are already answered in our FAQ and in iFAQ and Contact Enhanced documentation pages.

Updating contacts with import

6 years 9 months ago #23455 by rtaxerxes
Hi,

I have tried importing a csv file to update all the contacts in CE, but I get the result that 0 contacts were imported. Is it possible to update contacts via csv import?

Greetings,

Yes, you should be able to update Contacts using a CSV file. Just make sure to set the option "On Duplicate" to "Update"

Thanks. Is there any special format for the CSV file? I'm working on a Mac with Numbers and Textwrangler. I did try import it and am not getting any changes accepted. I tried with fields in inverted commas and without.

Here is the basic csv I made which is still not importing:
"ID","Name","Email"
"56","Cape Town Station Pharmacy","ali@zsd.co.za"

I also tried exporting a csv file, changing 1 thing and reimporting, but I get this error:
Notice Contacts (0) were uploaded and imported successfully from CSV file (contactenhanced__test.csv)

One thing I noticed is that the export file is named contactnehanced.csv.xls If I try to import with the xls extension still there, it says it is not a valid xls file.

Dear rtaxerxes,

It has to be saved in UTF8 encoding. I do not have Numbers to test with, however in my experience the easiest software to change the encoding is OpenOffice Calc.

Also, the columns headers do not have to be enclosed with quotes. They must be in lower case and they must match the #__ce_details database table columns.

The import feature only accepts CSV file, therefore you must export the CSV file and choose the Database Field Columns instead of Labels. See screenshot:
