Support Forum

Every time that you post a problem, PLEASE add the Joomla and the extension's versions and revisions (for example: Joomla 3.3.6, Contact Enhanced 3.3.5), PHP version and Server's Operating System. If you only manage only one site it is easier if you edit your profile and just add that information to your signature. Don't forget to add a detailed description of the problem. If possible, write down all steps to simulate the problem.

Before submitting a new post, PLEASE make sure you are running the latest version, test in different browsers (IE, FF, Chrome,..) and clear Joomla and browser's cache after every change you make.

Also, most questions are already answered in our FAQ and in iFAQ and Contact Enhanced documentation pages.

Assigning more than one category to a contact

13 years 6 months ago #4168 by slovell
In Contacts Enhanced 1.5.8.1, is there a way to assign a contact to more than one category?

For instance, if I have the categories:

- Sales
- R&D
- Social club

... and I want Joe Fearbringer to appear under "sales" and under "Social Club", how would I do that?

TIA
Shaun

Dear Shaun,

There is no such feature in any Contact Enhanced version.
Contact Enhanced uses Joomla default category system and it would require a lot of extra work in order to implement this feature.

Basically what you need to do right now is create this contact in all categories.

I'll move this thread to the feature request forum;

Dear Rajan,

I'm currently focused on Contact Enhanced for Joomla 1.6, but once that's done I'll take a closer look on future requestes and study the possibility of adding them to the next version.

Sincerely,

This feature has been requested by me also through private mail a long time ago.

If I can recall well (I do have my mails stored somewhere), I had suggested that since it's not possible to hook one contact to multiple categories right now, it would be really handy if we could have a simple COPY button and you had promised to implement it in the next version. Two versions later I still miss it...

Please include this basic copy functionality that will solve a lot of problems for users that need to have the same contact under multiple categories...

Examples:
1. School website: A student is a contact under year "x" but also under year "y" categories.
2. School website: A teacher is supposed to show up under "teachers" category but also under "management" category.
2. Company website: An employee of the company should appear under year "x" but also under year "y" categories.

Dear Panos2000,

I've just implemented this copy feature for you and it will be available in the next 1.5 version.
CE 1.6 already has a Save as Copy feature.

As for the Assign a Contact to Multiple Categories will take a bit longer.

All the best,
