Support Forum

Every time that you post a problem, PLEASE add the Joomla and the extension's versions and revisions (for example: Joomla 3.3.6, Contact Enhanced 3.3.5), PHP version and Server's Operating System. If you only manage only one site it is easier if you edit your profile and just add that information to your signature. Don't forget to add a detailed description of the problem. If possible, write down all steps to simulate the problem.

Before submitting a new post, PLEASE make sure you are running the latest version, test in different browsers (IE, FF, Chrome,..) and clear Joomla and browser's cache after every change you make.

Also, most questions are already answered in our FAQ and in iFAQ and Contact Enhanced documentation pages.

Generating weird links

8 years 10 months ago #19706 by sophe
Hi,

This generates weird links on my site; an example:

I'm on the page "Il Tema Giardino" (which is NOT a category but a single article) www.miomatrimonio.com/tema-giardino-delle-farfalle
The links generated are " www.miomatrimonio.com/tema-gia...erfetta-proposta-di-matrimonio ", adding the page as a category, and not as a simple correct url
" www.miomatrimonio.com/10-artic...erfetta-proposta-di-matrimonio "

The links work, but if that link is picked up by google etc it causes me to have pages like that link:
www.miomatrimonio.com/tema-gia...erfetta-proposta-di-matrimonio
with "Il Tema Giardino.." as the primary header and "6 regole per fare.." as an article under that category; the links on THAT page then result in
" www.miomatrimonio.com/tema-gia...gole-che-si-possono-infrangere ", taking into account the originating page..and the site gets messier and messier.

Why can't they create absolute links without adding the originating page's url as a category?
Is there something I can change to sort this out?
Thanks in advance,
Sophie

Dear Sophie,

That shouldn't happen because iRelated is using Joomla Articles Component Router to create the SEF links based on the article ID it's category ID, therefore it should create the links correctly only with one category in it. However the router takes into account the Menu items when it creates the links. If the parent category has a menu item, then it will probably will add the menu item alias to the link;

Which Joomla version are you using?
Are you using any third party SEF extension to create the SEF links?

Out of topic: For a more SEF efficient URL I recommend using URL Rewriting in Joomla global configuration.

Thanks for your reply and sorry for the delay in mine..
I'm not using any SEF extensions, and I'm on Joomla 3.4.1
URL re-writing is on..
I migrated the site from 1.5 a while back and had to change categories etc; I'm not sure whether that may have an effect.
No idea, I'll have to dig deeper and fiddle some more!

Dear Sophe,

That's odd.

Since the first version iRelated uses Joomla's content core router, therefore it should result in the same links as Joomla content links:
For the article links we use the code below on file /components/com_irelated/helpers/irelated.php on line 77 (in iRelated version 3.4.5):
ContentHelperRoute::getArticleRoute($article->slug, $article->catid);

For testing purposes try replacing $article->catid with a 0;

As far as I can think of Migrating from Joomla 1.5 shouldn't cause this.

Are you using the latest iRelated (Ideal Related Articles) version?
